The green house by the reservoir

Comprehensive renovation of an apartment from the 80s in front of the San Juan Reservoir

The Alberto Torres Interior Design Studio signs the comprehensive renovation of a three-bedroom apartment located in a building from the early 80s in San Martín de Valdeiglesias, a few meters from the San Juan Reservoir. A home that kept its original layout and finishes almost intact, except for the enclosure of the terrace made at the end of the 90s. That single precedent marked the starting point of the project: value light and views, integrating the old terrace into the daily life of the house and updating the rest of the spaces with an aesthetic fresh, natural and contemporary.

The intervention involved completely renovating the house: enclosures, installations, kitchen, bathroom, carpentry and flooring. The objective was clear: transform an aging apartment into a natural refuge oriented to daily enjoyment and the landscape, a central theme woven into every room through a palette of greens and warm materials.

General concept: green as identity and nature as a common thread

The proposal for the owners was forceful: create a home with a vegetal soul, where green serves as both the chromatic and emotional anchor. It was used not only for wall colors and furniture, but also in wallpapers, textiles, and coverings, creating an immersive atmosphere that conveys serenity.

A wood effect vinyl flooring, resistant and easy to maintain, ideal for a second home next to the natural environment.

Living-dining room: unifying, opening up, and looking out toward the landscape

The old separation between the living room and the closed terrace generated a double visual and functional barrier. The first gesture of the project was eliminate double enclosure, removing the internal carpentry and allowing the social area to breathe as a single space visually connected to the outside.

The new room is organized around a bottle green sofa that dialogues with the tone of the walls. Above it, some textured off-white squares add volume and break the monochrome. two metal coffee tables in aged gold finish structure the scene with a warm and sculptural touch. The original chimney was replaced with a integrated radiator with chimney effect, maintaining the cozy atmosphere with greater efficiency.

In the area previously occupied by the terrace, now fully integrated, a corner was designed presided over by a vertical garden and two beanbags facing views of the reservoir. Next, the dining room is articulated with a circular glass table and a hanging lamp with a unique design, which reinforces the natural and light identity of the set.

Kitchen: aesthetic continuity, functional improvements and intelligent redistribution

The original kitchen had very small dimensions, so one of the main challenges was optimize your equipment without giving up aesthetics. A was installed soft green furniture, blending almost seamlessly into the wall paint to create a serene, continuous look. For the flooring, a hydraulic tile in green and beige with a vintage feel was chosen, adding depth without disrupting the harmony with the rest of the home.

To gain real functionality, the decision was made to remove the washing machine from the kitchen, replacing it with a integrated dishwasher next to the microwave oven. This operation freed up work space and visually organized the composition.

The washing machine was moved to the bathroom, where it was integrated after modify the background of the partition, expanding it to accommodate the appliance without compromising the interior space. This modification required replacing the standard hinged door with a casenet sliding door, fully recessed into the wall, making the most of every available centimeter.

The white countertop and the gold handles balance the color palette and add luminosity. The result is a compact but fully functional kitchen, aligned with the rest of the project both in its natural language and in its capacity for daily use.

Bathroom: green intensity, gold and balance

The bathroom was transformed using a deep green ceramic coating at mid-height and throughout the shower, while the rest of the walls were painted in the same soft green as the rest of the house. The hydraulic flooring, shared with the kitchen, provides visual unity.

A washbasin cabinet with wood effect countertop, a circular mirror and the matte gold taps complete an elegant, warm and contemporary atmosphere.

In addition, the expanded space to house the washing machine was integrated with the utmost discretion, maintaining the clean and tidy aesthetics of the space.

Bedrooms: personality and serenity through moldings and wallpapers

Each bedroom was conceived as its own universe within the same green narrative.

Master bedroom

Starring a wallpaper by Instabilelab, which acts as a large floral canvas, wraps around the headboard upholstered in deep green and dialogues with the hanging lamps and natural wood furniture. It is a sensory, calm and elegant space.

Bedroom 2

With a single bed and a small desk, it is a functional bedroom designed for teleworking or studying. The paper with large format leaves and the moldings painted in the same tone create a fresh and balanced atmosphere.

Bedroom 3

Equipped with a 135 cm bed, it is covered with a botanical paper in vine effect that provides movement and softness. The textiles in mustard and earth tones make it a cozy space without losing the vegetal spirit of the entire home.

Conclusion: a reform that breathes landscape

This intervention not only completely updates a home that is more than four decades old, but also dialogues with the San Juan Reservoir as a direct inspiration for interior design. The coherent use of green, the integration of the old terrace and the selection of warm materials transform this apartment into a natural, contemporary and emotionally connected refuge with its surroundings.

A project that recovers the light, freshness and calm that were always present in the exterior landscape, bringing them inside with its own and timeless identity.
